Short Course Description

Reading African literature from a socio-political lense.

In this course we shall read together selected novels and short stories written by writers from the African continent: North and South of the Sahara. The reading lens will be socio-cultural and political.
The course will begin with three general talks about the "African Novel" and trends and genres in Literature from the African continent.
Students will be requested to read all selected books and stories as well as several academic publications related to them.
Students are expected to actively participate in all meetings, read the stories and be able to publicly discuss them . The final grade will be based on class participation (40) and home exam (60%).
