Short Course Description

This course will examine the theological and social development of Sufism since its beginnings in the ninth century until the twentieth-one century. It will focus on examining different aspects of the encounter and coping of Sufism with the challenges of the new age, such as colonialism and nationalism, the development of infrastructures and communication networks and changes in status of women. The case studies will focus on different spaces of Africa and the Middle East.
