Short Course Description
Ancient Greek philosophy encompasses a thousand years of creation. The Greeks not only established the field of philosophy, but its works provided endless inspiration for all generations up to this day. The Greeks defined philosophy and its areas of discussion, created tools for philosophic discourse, and developed its key terms and subjects. Plato and Aristotle hold central positions among the most influential philosophers of Western history; the Pre-Socratic philosophy preceded them, and Hellenistic philosophy followed. This course explores Greek philosophy's pivotal works and ideas from all periods. It will consist of informative lectures combined with in-class reading sessions.
Assessments: midterm in-class exam and final take-home exam
