Short Course Description
Between the personal and the political: progressive intervention in violence against women
Understanding the phenomenon of violence against women is a controversial issue. Between the perception of violence as a reciprocal inter-spousal occurrence and the perception of violence as an occurrence that is part of gender-based oppression, there is a deep paradigmatic rift. In the course we will understand the meaning of the difference as expressed in the level of intervention and the emphases adapted to the intervention from every point of view, while focusing on the problem of violence against women in the family as a phenomenon that exists in the private arena, but is possible in the public arena, as a personal problem arising from political reasons. In the course we will learn methods of intervention adapted to address both the experience and the personal distress of the woman and the man in the cycle of violence and the way in which political change processes are interwoven and promoted in the individual treatment.
The grade in the course is based on a summative exam which constitutes 100% of the grade.
