Short Course Description
The course provides an introduction to the field of development economics. In the course, we will examine important issues and selected works at the frontier of research in the field. The emphasis will be mainly empirical, examining causality and the impact of different factors and implementing various econometric methods.
A major part of the course will focus on providing students with the tools and capabilities that can benefit them in future research and work in the area.
Some of the topics we will cover from the perspective of developing countries are:
- Poverty, inequality, and growth
- Education, human capital, and labor
- Political economy and building democratic and dictatorial institutions
- Gender and household economics
- Environmental economics and health

- Final research proposal
- Topic presentation
- Active class participation
