Short Course Description

Solid Mechanics 1 is a basic course in Mechanics of deformable bodies. It deals with forces, moments, and deformations applied on linear elastic bodies and the resultant deformation, strain, and stresses generated in the body. We will study stress and strain transformation, strain-displacement relationship, stress equilibrium, generalized Hooke's law, etc. Stresses and strains in lateral deformations, bending of slender beams, torsion of circular rods, combined stresses, and more.
The outcome of the course is the ability to evaluate the stresses in simple mechanical devices, design of simple structures. Solid Mechanics 1 is usually a prerequisite to other courses in solid mechanics and in higher degrees in the field.
