Short Course Description

Neuroethology: neural mechanisms of animal behavior


Topics to be discussed:

? Introduction: From Ethology and Neurobiology to Neuroethology
? From the Krogh principle to the evolution of nervous systems
? Sensory systems I (The Barn Owl Model)
? Motor control II (CPG)
? Plasticity I (Neuromodulation)
? Plasticity II (Learning and memory)
? Plasticity III (Bird Song)
? Plasticity IV (Parasitoids)
? Animal consciousness
? Several further subjects will be presented by guest lecturers and in students? short presentations

The final grade will be based on a short presentation of a related paper (in groups of 2-3 students), and a written assignment.
