Short Course Description
The primary objective of this course is to develop students' ability to critically evaluate scientific literature and effectively present published research findings. Working in pairs, students will select a paper on a biomembrane-related topic from a diverse range of options, such as membrane protein structure and function, mitochondrial respiratory chain complexes, endocytosis mechanisms, superoxide production in mitochondria, and membrane protein trafficking.
After selecting a paper and receiving instructor approval, each pair will begin preparing their presentation. One student will introduce the broader research field related to the chosen paper, using recent review articles and textbooks for context. The second student will focus on presenting key experiments from the paper, particularly analyzing 1-2 figures. This will involve explaining the experimental techniques used, interpreting the data, and discussing the authors? conclusions.
Throughout the course, students are expected to engage in critical analysis of the assigned papers, actively participate in class discussions by asking insightful questions, and provide their own evaluations and critiques of the research presented.
